Affiliate Storm Chaser Program
The Central Appalachia Weather Authority (CAWA) Affiliate Storm Chaser Program is designed to unite independent storm chasers, weather spotters, and local field observers under one coordinated regional network. Our mission is to enhance public safety, data accuracy, and regional awareness by giving storm chasers the platform, tools, and visibility they deserve—while maintaining their individual identity and brand.
How It Works
Affiliate members retain their own name and page branding while becoming part of CAWA’s extended storm chase network. In return, affiliates gain access to collaborative media opportunities, live coverage features, and cross-promotion through CAWA’s social media channels, website, and broadcasts. This partnership strengthens real-time severe weather communication and ensures consistent, credible coverage across the Central Appalachian region.
Benefits for Affiliates
- Exposure & Credibility: Feature your chase footage, photography, and reports on CAWA’s platforms while maintaining full credit for your work.
- Shared Media Access: Get access to regional radar overlays, SPC/WPC forecast tools, and shared situational awareness dashboards.
- Networking: Collaborate with other verified storm chasers and meteorologists throughout the region.
- Training & Safety Resources: Receive guidance on safe chase practices, reporting standards, and NWS spotter certification.
- Event Participation: Join CAWA at weather conferences, educational events, and regional outreach programs.
Funding & Support Opportunities
CAWA is actively developing a shared funding model to help offset costs for affiliates. Possible opportunities include:
- Sponsorship Support: Affiliates may be eligible for equipment or fuel stipends through CAWA’s sponsorship partners.
- Media Licensing Revenue: Earn royalties when CAWA distributes or licenses your footage to news agencies or partner outlets.
- Affiliate Grants: Apply for small grants to assist with vehicle maintenance, camera gear, or communication equipment.
- Monetized Coverage: Affiliates may receive compensation for verified contributions to CAWA’s live severe weather broadcasts or digital coverage.
Media Collaboration
CAWA maintains strong relationships with broadcast stations, emergency management agencies, and online media partners. Affiliate content may be featured during live coverage, educational programming, or social media alerts—always with full credit and watermarks intact. This ensures both visibility and professional respect for every contributor.
